This festival, of rural origin, is celebrated mainly in Madrid, but also in other Spanish cities. Companion animals (dogs, cats, birds, and even pigs) receive San Antón’s blessing at the doors of the church dedicated to the saint.They are called “vueltas” (“turns”) because, according to tradition, in the past, the saint’s devotees would walk three laps around the chapel with their animals to receive the Saint’s protection.

Origen de la fiesta San Antón vivió en el siglo III, en el desierto, con animales que le protegían y que él también protegía. Por eso, es su patrón, figura de devoción de los campesinos y, actualmente, de todos los amantes de los animales.
Las Vueltas de San Antón: importante celebración en Madrid y otros lugares Esta fiesta, de origen rural, se celebra sobre todo en Madrid, pero también en otras ciudades españolas. Los animales de compañía (perros, gatos, aves y hasta cerdos) reciben la bendición de San Antón a las puertas de la iglesia dedicada al santo.
Se llaman "vueltas" porque, según la tradición, en el pasado, los devotos del santo daban tres vueltas en torno a la ermita con sus animales, para tener la protección del Santo.
Otros objetivos El objetivo de esta fiesta es además dar a conocer el trabajo de las diferentes asociaciones para defender y promover la adopción de animales, pero también, para ayudar a las personas más necesitadas. La misión de protección del Santo se hace realidad.
